Basire etched this image around 1764 as part of a group based on Guercino drawings in the Royal Collection, with other examples made by Francesco Bartolozzi and Richard Dalton. The present impression was issued by John and Josiah Boydell, after they acquired a large group of plates from Richard Dalton in 1791-92.
