The Age of Gallantry

George Henry Boughton British

Not on view

A young man wades into a stream to pick waterlillies for a young woman who watches from the bank at right with three friends and a dog. The figures wear Regency era dress and the title suggests that male gallantry of the sort seen here is a thing of the past. This book or periodical illustration related to a painting that Boughton showed at the Royal Academy in 1870.
