Miyashita Zenji Japanese

Not on view

Suggestive of rippling water, the imagery on this vase was created using a painstaking Japanese technique (saidei) in which layers of colored clays are applied to the surface of a vessel to create a striated appearance.

Vase, Miyashita Zenji (Japanese, 1939–2012), Stoneware with tinted blue clay bands, Japan
