Bell rubbing with Saint Dorothy, from "Wetterglocke," Church of St. Michael, Jena, Germany
From a set of rubbings made from reliefs on bells ranging from the 13th to 16th century from Germany, Sweden and Denmark. The provenance of the rubbings is unknown, although several reproduce bells that were damaged or destroyed during the Second World War, including this one, formerly in the Church of St. Michael in Jena. This set of rubbings seems to be unique in documenting medieval bell decorations.
