Plate 5 of a series of designs for mantelpieces. This plate shows two variants of a fireplace design. The left side is fairly bare while the right side is more ornamented. On the left the design is characterized by corinthian pilasters and a mask atop the mirror. On the right, those elements are repeated but to it are added ornaments at the top, bottom and middle of the pilasters, ornament on the spandrel of the fireplace, and shell and scroll ornament on the frieze.
