Bell rubbing with the Virgin and Child, from City Church of St. Margaret, Ranis, Germany

Not on view

From a set of rubbings made from reliefs on bells ranging from the 13th to 16th century from Germany, Sweden and Denmark. The provenance of the rubbings is unknown, although several reproduce bells that were damaged or destroyed during the Second World War. This set seems to be unique in documenting medieval bell decorations.
