Vincente Minnelli American

Not on view

Drawing, design for a woman's costume, part of a group of 88 costume designs by Vincente Minnelli. The costume consists of a beige, kimono-inspired coat with scrolling, semi-abstract floral patterns and three horizontal fastenings across the torso, worn over a long, orange-red dress with short train. The woman represented wearing the costume has short, wavy platinum-blonde hair, wears large jeweled earrings with orange-red (coral?) details and matching bracelet on her right hand, and holds a white fan with orange-red tassels on the left hand. On the verso, an unfinished sketch of another woman's costume presents a figure-hugging long dress, laced at the torso, and with a thin, long belt, worn with a large shawl (?) and tulle (?) headdress.
