Theatrical costume for Ethel Waters in "At Home Abroad"
Drawing, design for a man's costume, part of a group of 88 costume designs by Vincente Minnelli. The costume consists of a white jacket with two buttons and wide, blue trousers, worn over white socks and black espadrilles. The figure represented wearing the dress has dark skin, and wears a wide-brimmed, white hat. According to comments made by Vincente Minnelli in 1978, this was designed for Ethel Waters in 'At Home Abroad,' a production for the Shulmans that was directed by Minnelli and Thomas Mitchell in 1935.
