Cylindrical unguent vase with a lid

Middle Kingdom

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 111

This cylindrical jar with a flaring rim is a form generally used to hold ointment. The lid probably belonged to a different jar in the tomb because the lid is smaller than the rim of the base.
