This is one of three versions of this subject executed by Schiavone (B. XVI.49.17; XVI.50.18; XVI.50.19), all of them related to Parmigianino's etching of the Entombment (B. XVI.8.5; 27.78.2(291)). This version diverges substantially from its model, most notably in the position of Christ's body. While the state of this impression is reproduced in The Illustrated Bartsch as the first state, it appears to be a later state than both 27.78.1(102) (for which see entry) and 27.78.2(64) (Mariette Album, folio 22; before the reworking of the kneeling woman's chin)
