Wilton album, folio 34 verso: Saint John the Evangelist
On folio 34 verso; formerly pasted on folio 35 with three other prints.
For more information on the Wilton album see entry for 27.78.1(1-428)
The print is based on a preparatory drawing in opposite orientation now at the British Museum (SL,5224.69). This is the second state of the etching, after Farinati's plate, dated 1567, was acquired and republished by Justus Sadeler, who was active in Venice from 1596. The sheet has been trimmed along the bottom margin, so the original signature and date are no longer visible
