Head of Herakles

Late Period–Ptolemaic Period

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 134

Egyptian pottery figure types derived from a Greek tradition were popular in the Ptolemaic Period, along with techniques introduced from Greek workshops. The short curly hair and beard identify this head as that of Herakles.
