Round Fruit Basket (Morikago) with Antique Bamboo Arrows
Tanabe Chikuunsai II followed one of his father’s signature styles by occasionally integrating the shafts of old bamboo arrows into his baskets. Worked rhythmically into the structure of his compositions, the arrows, some decorated with black or red lacquer or gold leaf and others possessing a deep brown patina, serve as a textural design element.
