Not on view

Many of the paintings that featured in Srimati’s earliest solo exhibitions, in Chennai (1952) and New Delhi (1955), appear in this studio photograph of about 1950. The artist is surrounded by a number of the paintings on view in the present exhibition, which she retained throughout her lifetime, along with her prized vina and tambura. Both instruments are now in the collection of the Department of Musical Instruments at The Met, and one is exhibited here.
