Studio d'Arts Décoratifs..., Pl. 5, Dessins de fantaisie d’un caractère ultra-moderne

Fifth plate of pochoir pattern book, titled "Studio d'arts décoratifs" (2nd copy), with Art Deco textile designs created by Nicolas Sorokine and published in Paris by Armand Guérinet, probably in the second half of the 1920s or the early 1930s. The book consists of a title page with index and 16 plates numbered 1-16, each with numerous designs, bound with dark blue linen boards. The designs contain a variety of geometric motifs, birds and flowers, all typical of the Art Deco style, which was characterized by its eclecticism, drawing from a variety of sources that sought to combine old European design traditions with the modern style diffused by avant-garde art, while also reflecting the romantic fascination with early Egyptian and Meso-American "exotic" cultures promoted by archaeological discoveries of the times.

This plate presents several "fantastic designs" with a variety of abstract and geometric patterns executed with different color combinations. One of them presents a semi-abstract floral motif made up of pink flowers with yellow and orange shadows in the petals and semi-abstract leaves made up of rapid strokes of shades of green over an abstract background with short horizontal strokes executed in shades of orange and brown over a yellow ground. Two designs present checked patterns executed with shades of blue, red and green, and another contains an abstract pattern made up of scattered, overlapping stone-shaped figures outlined with dark blue, some of them colored with blue, orange or yellow, over a light brown ground. Another design is made up of a repetition of motifs made up of triangles, L-shapes, and vertical and horizontal stripes and shuttle shapes, colored with shades of green and orange, between two vertical stripes of black color with groups of scales, on one side separated by groups of vertical lines. The last pattern on the design contains fragments of sunbursts colored with yellow or turquoise and brown over turquoise, pink or yellow grounds, over a checked background made up of thin turquoise intersecting vertical and horizontal stripes over a white ground.
