Temple and Date Palms, Philae (236. Philé T. découvert et P. dattiers)
Joseph-Philibert Girault de Prangey French
Not on view
When Girault visited in 1842, the island of Philae was the site of a Roman-era temple commonly called Trajan’s Kiosk. The surrounding area flooded regularly after the construction of a dam in 1902, and the temple was dismantled and moved to Agilkia Island in the 1960s.
