Studio d'Arts Décoratifs, 3e Série, Pl. 2, Six Dessins de haute fantaisie, Coloris nouveaux
Second plate of the third series of pochoir pattern books, titled "Studio d'arts décoratifs", with Art Deco textile designs created by Nicolas Sorokine and published in Paris by Armand Guérinet, probably in the second half of the 1920s or the early 1930s. The series consists of a title page with index and 12 plates with designs numbered 1-12, each with numerous designs, bound with dark blue linen boards. The designs contain a variety of geometric motifs, birds and flowers, all typical of the Art Deco style, which was characterized by its eclecticism, drawing from a variety of sources that sought to combine old European design traditions with the modern style diffused by avant-garde art, while also reflecting the romantic fascination with early Egyptian and Meso-American "exotic" cultures promoted by archaeological discoveries of the times.
This plate consists of six designs of "high fantasy" made with "new colors", featuring a variety of semi-abstract floral and geometric motifs. The first design is made up of vertical undulating garlands with black branches and green leaves and light blue flower buds separated by vertical rows of stylized pink flowers with black leaves and thin black branches with blue leaves over a purplish-red ground. The second design is made up of large stylized green leaves over a background of vertical semi-abstract leaves colored with blue and purple and decorated with green dots over a green ground. The third design is made up of alternating diagonal strips and squares of semi-abstract flowers, leaves and scrolling motifs, colored with blue, orange and light green, over a green ground. The fourth design consists of rows of black and red abstract motifs made up of small geometric figures, such as triangles and parallellograms, over a gray background with horizontal zig-zagging blue stripes. The fifth design is made up of stylized rosettes colored with shades of green and zig-zagging garlands with semi-abstract green leaves and purple and red fruits over a cream background with horizontal zig-zagging stripes colored with green and decorated alternatingly with purple triangles and thin gray grids and white and red rectangles and gray glitched lines. The final design is made up of semi-abstract flowers with leaves and fruits colored with aquamarine, white, gray, tan and black over a purple ground.
