Landscape Sketches

Xie Zhiliu Chinese

Not on view

The highly abbreviated landscapes in these drawings, which probably date from the late 1950s or early 1960s, stand in marked contrast to Xie's precisely rendered sketches of the 1930s. As examples of Xie's mature work, they show him confidently extrapolating simplified compositions from a welter of scenery.
