Numerous printers and engravers were engaged to satisfy the demand for paper money in the Confederacy. One such printing firm was J.T. Paterson. On this denomination of a five dollar bill, there is a sailor at the lower left and Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, is seated on a bale of cotton at the center.
