A Little Walk/Lark in August
This highly detailed, sweeping panorama is the creation of the collaborative team Hipkiss. Dense with symbolism, the drawing features a fantastic landscape that is situated between the realms of nature and culture, agriculture and industry. At the top are ominous architectural structures towards which birds fly. Along the bottom edge is a strange orchard filled with row upon row of twisted trees. Meanwhile, a female figure fit with small wings and a halo emerges from a tree at the top right, while androgynous figures, powerful and defiant, arise from the ground, as if birthed from Mother Nature. The drawing’s rich iconography speaks of chaos, conflict, and change.
