During his 1818-20 visit to the United States Klinckowstrom witnessed the United Capitol under reconstruction following damage by fire during the War of 1812. Reconstruction of new Senate and House Chambers tool place between 1815 and 1819, followed by a central section topped with a low dome, completed in 1826.
