Poetic scenes of lovers and the distress of their separation were popular themes in the Pahari Hills at the beginning of the nineteenth century. At that time, the workshops in the Kangra and Guler courts were producing works of exceptional quality and refinement, as seen here in the delicate execution of the central heroine.
