Don Eddy American
1986–87
Not on view
Eddy was one of the major proponents of Photorealism to emerge in the 1970s, along with Chuck Close, Richard Estes, Ralph Goings, and Audrey Flack. Born in Long Beach, California, Eddy studied painting at the University of Hawaii and the University of California, Santa Barbara. He began his career painting automotive subjects based on his own photographs. By the 1980s, he was constructing and photographing intricate still-lifes featuring glassware, silverware, and toys arranged on reflective glass shelves. This photograph was one of several that Eddy used as the basis for his acrylic-on-canvas painting, "Dreamreader's Cabinet III," 1987. Although it functioned as a visual reference for the painting, this meticulously composed and beautifully printed photographs holds its own as an independent work of art.
