The Seven Planets: The Moon, Diana

Engraving, part of a set of seven oval engravings illustrating the seven planets, created by Etienne Delaune in 1575. Each print contains an allegorical representation of one of the seven planets, made up of the god that presides each planet, sitting on clouds and endowed with their traditional attributes, with one or two astrological signs representing the planet being, and the corresponding symbols for each planet, which are also chemical symbols.




In this engraving, the moon is represented by Diana who, reclined on a doe, her forehead crowned by a small crescent moon, holds a spade in her arms, while her bow and quiver of arrows rest behind her back.To the left is the sign of Cancer, represented by a lobster, next to its astrological symbol: 69. Between Diana's face and the tip of her javelin is another small crescent moon, symbol of the planet and chemical symbol for silver.
