Fame publishing the exploits of Henry II (La Renommée publiant les exploits de Henri II)

Etienne Delaune French

Not on view

Etching, part of a series of nine round prints with emblematic subjects of the glory of Henry II, all with dark backgrounds made up of thin, horizontal lines, and with a white exergue on the bottom, likely destined for inscriptions. In this etching, Fame, represented by a winged woman, sits on a rearing winged horse, Pegasus, who also represents fame. In her right hand, she holds the crescent moon of Henry II and, in her left hand, she holds a trumpet, her attribute. On both sides of her are two figures: a man and a woman, either scared or astonished, which represent the four parts of the world. On the ground, between their feet, are several abandoned arms.
