Rhythm color

Sonia Delaunay French, born Ukraine
1942
Not on view
This small watercolor and gouache on paper is a fine example of Sonia Delaunay’s mature style that depended heavily upon her earlier development of Orphism. Using color in a bold and imaginative way, she produced dynamic compositions like this one. Simple geometric forms, such as the circles in this work, in conjunction with color, suggest different depths of planes and a sense of movement.
