Gilded leather notebook

Manufacturer Wiener Werkstätte
ca. 1925–30
Not on view
The fashion department of the Wiener Werkstätte was founded in 1911. Inventive fabric designs, draped silks, rich colors, and beaded details that made both the clothing and accessories gleam characterized their early designs. With its gilded cover and beaded details, this notebook reflects the designer’s interest in making the most simple of objects luxurious. Created by Josef Hoffmann and others in the leather department, gilded leather handbags, purses, and wallets became a staple for the Wiener Werkstätte. Gilded notebooks, in different shapes and sizes, were part of the Viennese workshop’s offerings for many years.
