Yuanming Yuan, Beijing, China (Waterdrop Lotus Triptych)
This magnificent triptych captures a lotus pond in Yuanming Yuan, an eighteenth-century imperial garden complex west of Beijing. An array of lotus flowers stand forth against the dark surface of the mirror-smooth pond. Their leaves, spangled with beaded water drops from a recent rain shower, transform the dark composition into a glistening wonderland. The extraordinary interplay of light and dark attests to Conner’s virtuosic technique and the expressive potential of photography.
