Ink Meditation
Ink Meditation exemplifies Wang Dongling’s innovative abstraction of calligraphy in a monumental vertical format. Instead of focusing on the execution of individual brushstrokes, the artist draws attention to the negative space that enlivens the otherwise monolithic picture. Wielding an oversize brush, most of the composition is black, leaving only a few uninked areas of white ground at the center and corners.
