Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
Boizot, director of the renowned Sèvres factory, exhibited a marble bust of Louis XVI at the 1785 Salon. He created this commemorative version in porcelain that same year, along with a companion bust of Marie Antoinette. The French presented each Mysore ambassador with a pair, together with Lyon silks, Savonnerie carpets, and other Sèvres porcelain shown in this case. Many of the French gifts, including these busts, were seized in 1799 when the sultan was overthrown.
