Pair of Pedestals
Boulle supplied these two pedestals (with seven others) in 1684 to Louis XIV’s son, known as the Grand Dauphin, for his Cabinet des Glaces (Mirror Cabinet) at Versailles, the mirror-lined room where he kept part of his art collection. With special permission, visitors could enter the sumptuous space, but they were asked to wear slippers to protect the precious marquetry floor also created by Boulle.
