The Dark Delights of Research II

In this work, Goldyne engages the importance of experimentation and the role of the accident. The two images, each of which measures 12" x 9," were printed from separate plates on one sheet of paper. They are impressions of the recto and verso of the same plate. The work is based on an "accident" in which Goldyne left tape and glue fragments on the verso of a plate he was printing. The acid bath caused these materials to leave an etched pattern he found interesting and pursued in this work, in which he inked and colored impressions of both sides of the same plate, which he printed next to each other.
