Greeting card (Gluckwunschkarten) with wishes for a good New Year

1809
Not on view
This card is a hand-colored lithograph, which shows a handsome young man with black curly hair, wearing a vivid blue shirt with a pink, upturned collar. He is standing before a brass urn which sits upon a tripod, reminiscent of the classical lottery drawing. When a tab is gently pulled, he lifts a sheet of paper from the lucky pot, on which are inscribed wishes for a good New Year.

This is from the studio of Anton Berka, (1765–1838), who was a popular Viennese manufacturer of greeting cards, also known as "Gluckwunschkarten".
