New Year's Greeting

before 1820
Not on view
This New Year's greeting features a young man standing to the left of a flaming altar. He carries a lyre, suggesting that he represents Hymen, the mythological god of marriage. Above the pillar-like flaming altar are two winged cherubs holding a pink satin heart containing a printed inscription as well as two clouds from which the outstretched arms and clasped hands of a man and a woman protrude.
