A View in Cumberland

This satirical portrait focuses on Ernest Augustus, the fifth son of George III, who became Duke of Cumberland in 1799. He often wore military uniform, as here, and had a distinctive mustache and sideburns. At the death of his elder brother William IV in 1837, he became king of Hanover.
