Designer Geoffrey Beene American
Not on view
This sensuous jersey dress exhibits many of the hallmarks of the American designer Geoffrey Beene’s work: a minimalistic paring back and perfection in cut, an appreciation of form and the corporeal with an emphasis on the waist, and an expert manipulation of fabric—all of which coalesce into a comfortable and functional garment. A voided ellipse at the center front is the principal design conceit of the dress, and is characteristic of Beene’s interest in exploring tension through use of positive and negative space, persuasively demonstrating the so-called "liquid geometry" effect that Beene pursued in fashion throughout his career.
