Vase (one of a pair)
Designer Christopher Dresser British, Scottish
Manufactory Minton(s) British

The shape of these vases copies that of a Japanese bronze, and the decoration is drawn from both Chinese and Japanese sources. The painted motifs on these vases are executed in a style intended to resemble cloisonné enamels in which the colored enamels are outlined in gold. These vases reflect one aspect of Dresser’s deep interest in Japanese art, which informed his work in regard to both shapes and decorative schemes.
