Foot stool (bout de pied)

ca. 1780–85
Not on view
French seat furniture was often made in sets consisting of matching arm and side chairs, settees, bergères, stools, as well as a footstool and fire screen. The carving of the seat rails and the multi-color gilding of this particular footstool suggest that it was once part of an important set.
