Navy and white are a formal sign of spring, especially in France and the United States. Spring's warm zephyrs set ships to sailing after the safe harbors of winter; fashion's shipshape convention of blue and white alludes to fair skies and the romantic ventures and venturers of the seas. At once naturalistic and abstract, the convention of navy and white for spring is one which continues to recur each year.
