Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Arch, Brooklyn, NY
The Detroit Publishing Company was a leading publisher of photographic view cards, including of New York’s myriad skyscrapers, monuments, bridges, parks, transportation hubs, and cultural institutions. There was enormous demand in the early twentieth century for postcards of well-known sites, tourist attractions, and otherwise notable views of cities across the United States. In 1905 alone, almost one billion postcards were mailed in the U.S.
