Design for Woven Textile Patterns
Not on view
This is one of a group of seven textile designs by the Wiener Werkstätte. Three sheets contain one design each and are overall patterns made up out of semi-abstract naturalistic motifs. Four additional sheets are specifically related to woven textiles, and contain information and schematic overviews on how the fabric was to be woven. In some cases, fabric swatches have been pasted onto the sheets as well. They supply important information on how these textiles were designed and created. For instance, several of the weaving charts contain information on how many hours the production of the textile would take. The charts also carry dates, predominantly in the year 1914, which was the year in which the Werkstätte built a new factory for fashion and textile and greatly expanded their productivity in this area.
