James Madison from Presidents of the United States (N309e). Issued ca.1880–90. Color image of president with facsimile signature below. Open box at bottom of card used by specific advertisers. Six tobacco companies identified by Burdick -- American Eagle, Aug. Beck, M. Hirsch (Queens Cup), Mayo, Nickel-In and Yarbrough -- used trade card for advertising their products. Many cards have empty box. Back includes company, brand name and numbered checklist "Names of Presidents".
