Marble palette
On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum.Technical analysis: Ultraviolet-induced visible light luminescence examination
This palette, carved from a fine-grained marble, is completely intact. Its thin walls curve up along the long sides creating a trough shape. The short ends are carved concave so that each of the four corners comes to a point. A similar palette was found on Naxos. (1).
The yellowish marble surface is covered with brownish encrustation that is heavier on the underside than on top.
