Portrait of a Seventeenth-Century Officer

Based on an unidentified 17th portrait, this mezzotint shows an officer (probably Spanish) who holds a baton on his right hip. He stands in a spacious interior wearing a ruff, breastplate, doublet and hose, a sword slung at his side. His helmet and gauntlets rest on a cloth-covered table at right below a curtain. At left a stone column stands before an arched opening that gives a view of a distant hill town.
