For his spring/summer 2001 collection, John Galliano produced a range of scanty chitons made from deconstructed football jerseys. The juxtaposition of a bared chest with classical drapery is an image of male authority that has resonated through history. Drawing on this image, Galliano's "locker-room" chitons combine two ideals of masculinity - the Greek god and the American football hero.
