Vertical Grotesque Panel with a Personification of Architecture
Cornelis Bos Netherlandish
Not on view
This print shows a design for a vertical grotesque panel with a personification of Architecture at top. The print is part of a series created by Cornelis Bos in 1548.The diminutive size of the series may be inspired by his time in Nuremberg, while the ornament itself is Italianate in origin. The Met's set stands out because the prints are preserved on partially uncut sheets, showing three plates on one piece of paper. This sheet is numbered "233" in faded pen and ink, suggesting it was once part of an album.
