This Art Nouveau design features a blue flower, a symbol of inspiration for the Romanticism movement and a motivator for Van Dyke’s collection of essays. Van Dyke states that he used the blue flower “to signify happiness, the satisfaction of the heart,” and concludes, “my wish is that the Blue Flower may grow in the garden where you work.”
