Blanck distinguishes 3 printings of this first edition. Only the 1st has a half-title leaf (counted as pages [i]-[ii]); the text was reimposed without it, without changing the preliminary pagination, for the 2nd and 3rd printings; Blanck also notes 3 isolated textual variants introduced into the 3rd printing. A separately printed 4-page publisher's advertisement, "Other books by Mr. Cable", is inserted at the end of copies of the 2nd and 3rd printings.

Red calico-grain cloth. Gold and black stamping on front with a winged black sword piercing the middle of the gold title. Gold stamping on spine. No decoration on back. Unsigned binding attributed to Margaret Armstrong by Gullans, Checklist (1968).
