Pattern Repeat for a Large Moresque Design
Large rectangular panel with a pattern repeat for a moresque design. The engraving shows half of the full pattern, and is meant to be mirrored to complete it. The pattern is executed in black on a blank background. Moresque patterns of this kind were distributed in print in Italy from the 1520s onwards. Large patterns like this one generally date from the 1530s or 1540s.
