Church of St. James, James Street, New York
St. James Roman Catholic Church still stands at 32 James Street, between St. James Place and Madison Street in lower Manhattan. New York's second oldest Roman Catholic building, it was erected 1835-37 of fieldstone with Doric columns flanking the entrance, here shown topped by a domed cupola that later was taken down. This print comes from a series of images of churches published by Eckstein & Parr (also see 54.90.1694).
